BT, in partnership with Wicom, have announced that they’ve installed Wi-Fi access points across a number of British Holiday destinations. The wi-fi wil be free to use by BT Broadband customers and covers 77 camping and caravanning club sites, plus three Pontin’s holiday parks and a series of Coastfields’ Leisure sites.
With some 50k visitors expected over the upcoming August bank holiday, BT expects the Wi-Fi hotspots to be fully taken advantage of, with O2 iPhone customers as well as mobile broadband users with inclusive Wi-Fi minutes also being able to connect for free.

Wi-Fi technology is ideal for campsites and holiday parks, where running ethernet cabling is often either not feasible or simply cost-prohibitive. The initiative from BT will enable people with connected lifestyles to continue their activites while on holiday, and in that sense allow them to compete with the same level of offerings as cottage or city breaks.
Speaking to online tech journal Pocket-lint, Chris Bruce - general manager of BT Openzone - said:
Having the option to get online and stay entertained will provide a useful ‘plan B’ if the weather does its worst, and being able to look up tourist information and hunt out local gems will make for a better trip
BT themselves currently have close to half a million Wi-Fi hotspots across the UK and Ireland.
