The August bank holiday is rapidly approaching, but have you booked your hire car for that weekend getaway yet? If not, do so immediately! carrentals.co.uk have been watching the state of the car hire industry for the past month and warns of severe shortages over the national away day, leading to vastly hiked prices, sell-outs and many a frayed temper BHP would imagine!

Seasoned caravanners obviously don’t have this kind of issue to deal with. I’m sure you all have your estate cars, complete with tow bar, safely tucked up in your garages - but for those ocassional UK holiday goers this could potentially scupper their plans altogether.

As always, the recession is likely the underlying cause of the car hire shortages. Many car rental companies reduced their stock levels in preperation for a bad summer, but that has an added knock-on effect to those having a staycation (yeah, stupid word, I know) in good old Blighty.
