sunshineToday was supposed to be one of the hottest days of the year so far, with the Met Office predicting some 30 degrees of the celsius where BHP HQ is located. Well, I can safely say that it didn’t reach anywhere near that kind of temperature, I would hazard a guess at it faring little more than 25 degrees at a push.

Less of our moaning though, we decided instead to put our day to good use instead. With this in mind, we concocted a very technical BHP algorithm to rank the top 5 best places to be on a balmy mid August day in the British Isles, so sit back and enjoy:

5. Northern Ireland

The Emerald Isle has seen some pretty decent weather in the last few days, with clear skies and calm winds. We know that the weather can take a sudden turn though which is why we can’t place Northern Ireland any higher than 5. If it was down to Guinness only it would be our #1 though.

4. Scotland

Is there a better way to spend a summers day than walking round a glistening loch followed by a sumptuous feast of haggis? uhm… well, forget about the haggis bit and I’m sure you’ll arrive at a resounding “no!”. Scotland has enjoyed some fantastic weather of late so I’m sure Groundskeeper Willie is having a great time during his annual visit back to the homeland.

3. London

We couldn’t complete our top 5 without having one of the UK’s fine cities making an appearance, and what finer city than our proud capital London town. Many of you would probably disagree that being couped up in a large concrete jungle is a good thing on a hot summers day, but you’re fogetting that some of the best parks and hotels reside in this fine settlement. If you’re looking for a top city break, then look no further. It’s also an added bonus that London enjoys some of the highest temperatures recorded across the UK on a regular basis. Must be all that smog holding the heat in!

2. Devon

How is Devon only at #2 I hear you cry? simples, because we haven’t managed to get down to Devon in over two years and are feeling a little jealous of you “English Riviera” folk. Having said that, it’s the closest to paradise you’re likely to find on British soil and if you haven’t visited the sunshine coast yet we’d recommend you pull your finger out and mosey on down there one summer in the near future.

1. South East England

It had to be didn’t it? Seeing as BHP HQ is located on the Costa del Essex it’s no surprise that the best place to be at this time of year is right here. From strolling along our vast beaches, playing in our evergreen parks and smapling some of our many outdoor delights - there is no better place to enjoy the British summer than the South East.
